It aims to promote increased knowledge of companion animal infectious diseases through encouragement of research in the discipline and dissemination of information. It fosters the development and exchange of expertise in companion animal infectious diseases and microbiology through meetings and publications, as well as making recommendations on policies pertaining to companion animal infectious diseases. Virtual ISCAID 2020: Zoonoses in Companion Animals – Streaming live September 10 and 11, 2020
2021 Symposium – Due to the continued challenges and uncertainties resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 ISCAID symposium is postponed. The symposium will now be held in Glasgow, Scotland from September 5-8, 2021. The abstract submission system remains open but the deadline is extended into 2021.

The ISCAID Antimicrobial Guidelines Working Group was established in 2010, and is comprised of clinical microbiologists, pharmacologists, and internal medicine specialists with expertise in infectious disease and antimicrobial use. The goals were 1) to develop guidelines containing recommendations for antimicrobial drug choice and dosing for specific diseases of companion animals, in order to reduce inappropriate use of antimicrobial drugs; 2) to educate of veterinarians about the need for rational and effective antimicrobial drug use; 3) to disseminate the guidelines widely in accessible formats; and 4) to identify areas for further research.
The first set of guidelines published were those for urinary tract infections in dogs and cats and superficial pyoderma in dogs. Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of respiratory tract diseases in dogs and cats were published in early 2017.
